What is blepharoplasty?
Sometimes, due to aging, skin wrinkles, hereditary factors, and special anatomy of the face, people suffer from drooping eyelids. Sometimes, due to tear gland disorders and fat accumulation under the eyes, people suffer from puffiness under the eyes, all these problems can be cured by using a special treatment method called blepharoplasty.
Stages of blepharoplasty
- First, in a meeting, the doctor or surgeonwill discuss with you the amount and extent as well as the blepharoplasty surgery technique that is going to be performed on you on the day of the surgery and come to an agreement with you.
- On the day of the operation, the areas to be cut and operated onwill be marked on your eyelid.
- First of all, it is the patient’s turn to be anesthetized to start the eyelid surgery. But typically, general anesthesia is not necessary for blepharoplasty, and if only blepharoplasty is being performed, local anesthesia with oral sedation (or IV sedation for lower eyelid surgery) can be an excellent option. However, if blepharoplasty is combined with other treatments, the surgeon also uses anesthesia.
- Lower blepharoplasty is performed through small incisions hidden under the lower eyelashes in the moist lining of the eyelid.
- Upper blepharoplasty usually involves conservative removal of upper eyelid skinand fat and is performed through small incisions in the upper eyelid.
- After blepharoplasty, the surgeon closes the incisions with stitches and removes them in the next meeting with the patient.
